Brooke has been a Family Law Mediator since 2017, and has continued her training and development of her mediation skills each year thereafter. When acting as a mediator, Brooke uses those skills, along with her vast knowledge of family law, to facilitate a process wherein the parties themselves make decisions about their future and, if applicable, their children’s futures, in order to reach a fair agreement.
Brooke strongly believes that the process of mediation is the best first option for couples and families who are going through a separation. Instead of being thrown into a lengthy, stressful, and expensive court process where a Judge makes decisions, mediation allows the parties to have more certainty, reach an agreement quicker, and is often significantly less expensive. In addition, mediation is designed to be a less adversarial and conflictual process, thus making it a healthier process for all parties involved.
Brooke offers mediation for individuals who are represented by counsel, as well as those who prefer to represent themselves. As a mediator, Brooke acts as a neutral third party and does not represent either party’s interests. However, using her background as a senior family law lawyer, Brooke can provide knowledge of the current state of the law surrounding various family law issues. This knowledge and information often assists the parties in reaching an agreement that they feel is fair.
Mediation can be effective in resolving all issues arising from a separation, including division of assets and debts, spousal support, parenting arrangements, child support, and even shared custody of a pet. The versatility of the mediation process makes it a more comfortable option for all parties.
